Like a lot of kids my boy started with a love of Thomas the Train stories. Then we took a short ride on a diesel-powered train in Maine on a narrow-gauged railroad track. We went to train museum that had a huge model railroad village which the kids enjoyed. At a hot air balloon festival, we took a ‘train ride’ which was really a homemade train made of steel barrels fastened together. At the Philadelphia Zoo and later the Oregon zoo we took little train rides around. The Oregon zoo train ride is pretty impressive and winds its way through wooded areas surrounding the zoo. We read books about Maglev magnetic trains and took the subway in Boston and tram in Portland, Oregon. As kids get to know their turf it's fun to try lots of different modes of transportation. Pictured here is the entrance to a subway station in Boston.
